This 9-day journey across Sri Lanka begins with a relaxing beach stay in Negombo, followed by a trip to Kalpitiya for coastal charm and seasonal dolphin watching. From there, travel to Anuradhapura to explore ancient ruins and enjoy a wildlife safari in Wilpattu National Park. Next, immerse yourself in the rich Tamil culture of Jaffna, visiting temples, markets, and the historic Delft Island. Continue to Sigiriya to climb the iconic rock fortress and experience traditional village life near Dambulla. Then head to Kandy, visiting a spice garden en route and exploring its cultural landmarks like the Temple of the Tooth. Finally, visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage on your way to Colombo, where you can shop and unwind before your departure.

Itinerary Breakdown

Day 1: Bandaranaike International Airport → Negombo

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and head to a lively beach town known for its golden shores and seafood delights. Check in to a luxurious beachfront resort and spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool or taking a sunset stroll along the beach.

Overnight stay: Negombo

Start the day by heading to Kalpitiya, a coastal paradise. Spend the afternoon unwinding on the beach, and in the evening, take a dolphin-watching boat tour (seasonal). Overnight in a beach resort.

Overnight stay: Kalpitiya

Depart Kalpitiya and drive through the scenic nature to reach Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s first capital. Explore ancient ruins, including Ruwanwelisaya, Sri Maha Bodhi, and Jetavanaramaya, afterwards go on a safari at Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka’s largest wildlife reserve. In the afternoon, embark on an exciting Jeep Safari to spot leopards, elephants, and sloth bears.

Overnight stay: Anuradhapura

After breakfast, travel north to Jaffna, a region rich in Tamil culture. Visit the famous Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, explore Jaffna Market, and watch the sunset at Jaffna Fort. End the day with authentic Jaffna cuisine and a restful night.

Discover Keerimalai Hot Springs and the ancient Naguleswaram Temple before taking a boat to Delft Island, home to wild ponies and Dutch ruins. Relax at Casuarina Beach and, if time permits, visit Point Pedro, the northernmost tip of Sri Lanka.

Begin your journey from Jaffna and enjoy a scenic drive through the northern and central provinces. Upon arrival in Sigiriya, take a break and enjoy a local Sri Lankan lunch before heading to explore the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Discover its ancient frescoes, the Mirror Wall, and the panoramic views from the summit. After your climb, visit the Sigiriya Museum to learn more about the site’s fascinating history. End your day by relaxing in the cultural heart of Sri Lanka.

Spend another enriching day in the Sigiriya area by visiting the nearby Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with stunning Buddha statues and ancient cave paintings. After exploring the temple, head to a local village to experience traditional Sri Lankan life. Take part in a cooking demonstration using authentic clay pots and fresh local ingredients, or enjoy a peaceful bullock cart ride through the scenic countryside. It’s a perfect way to connect with the culture, savor local flavors, and enjoy the slower pace of rural life.

Overnight stay: Sigiriya

Travel from Sigiriya to Kandy, journeying through lush landscapes and scenic hill country. Along the way, stop at a spice garden in Matale to learn about Sri Lanka’s famous spices and enjoy a refreshing herbal tea. Upon reaching Kandy, explore the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic, a significant Buddhist pilgrimage site. Stroll around the beautiful Kandy Lake, visit the vibrant local market, and, if time allows, enjoy a cultural show featuring traditional dance and drumming. End the day relaxing in the cool climate of this charming hill capital.

Overnight stay: Kandy

Depart from Kandy and On the way, stop at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage to observe elephants up close as they bathe and roam freely. Continue your journey into Colombo and explore shopping spots if time apart. Transfer to the airport for your departure.

  • Accommodation from 3 to 5-star hotels; Star category can change upon request. (The standard check-in time at all hotels is 2:00 PM, and check-out time is 11:00 AM.)

  • Transportation by air–conditioned vehicle throughout the tour.
  • Service provided by an “English speaking chauffeur guide” throughout the tour.
  • Airport transfers to and from Bandaranaike International Airport.

Exclusions

  • Airfare to and from Sri Lanka is not included.
  • Travel Insurance and Visa fees and arrangements are not included and should be obtained by the traveler prior to arrival in Sri Lanka.
